Belated Congratulations to the 2024 Butler Scholarship Recipients
The Albemarle County Democratic Party is pleased to announce the 2024 recipients of its James and Nellie Butler Community Service Scholarships. Awarded to one graduating senior at each of the county’s public high schools, the $2,000 Butler Scholarship commemorates the surpassing community and public service of James and Nellie Butler, a husband-and-wife team who served the county and its citizens for many years and did so always with unstinting and talented dedication, in the important arenas of education, voting rights, civic participation, and so much more.
The county students who have received the 2024 scholarships—Opal Kendall from Western Albemarle High School, Kawika Keys from Albemarle High School, and Zachary Gran from Monticello High School—have all exemplified this same dedication and service to their community and have also charted a course for exciting college careers and continued public service. In the 2024 fall term, Ms. Kendall will attend Georgetown University, Mr. Keys Howard University—both in Washington, D.C.—and Mr. Gran will attend Warren Wilson College in North Carolina.
