An estimated 4,000 Charlottesville and Albemarle citizens participated in the local “Hands Off!” protest yesterday along Rt. 29 near Stonefield yesterday. The event was one of 1,400 similar rallies taking place across the country. The enthusiastic crowd chanted and carried signs focused on opposing the Trump administration and Elon Musk and defending various democratic principles and social programs. Traffic along the road provided ceaseless support for the rally by honking horns and cheering.
Some residents also traveled to the main protest event in Washington D.C. which is estimated to have had 100,00 participants–way more than the predicted number of 20,000.
