Delegate Sam Rasoul and Postcard Writing about Climate Change

March 7, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Indivisible Charlottesville welcomes Delegate Sam Rasoul to Charlottesville to share with us his perspective on what needs to change in Richmond in order to pass the climate change legislation we need for a livable future.

The 2019 Virginia legislative session was the most hostile yet for advancing legislation to address climate change. Delegate Rasoul (VA11) introduced this session’s most powerful bill to address climate change. HR 1635 would have jumpstarted Virginia’s shift away from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, moving us to 80% clean energy by 2035. The bill failed 86-12, with many Democrats voting against it.

Del. Rasoul will offer insights into what we, as voters and constituents, can do to be sure that our legislators know that addressing climate change is what will get them into office and keep them there. Del. Rasoul’s discussion will be followed by postcard writing to voters on climate change. Indivisible Charlottesville will supply the postcards, but please bring stamps!

“You cannot separate social, economic, and environmental justice issues. Virginia has the opportunity to make major strides in eliminating poverty and ensuring prosperity in the Commonwealth by creating tens of thousands of good paying jobs in clean energy.” Del. Sam Rasoul

Location: Stonefield Commons, 2035 Bond Street Ste. 120
The space is in the 2nd block (after you turn right on Bond St from 29 south), on the left side, near Vineyard Vines.
