He served as chief investigative counsel for the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. Heaphy also conducted a review, commissioned by the city of Charlottesville, of the 2017 Unite the Right rally.
In addition, Heaphy founded the Fountain Fund, “which provides low-interest loans and financial coaching to formerly incarcerated people, helping them build credit and achieve their self-determined goals. The Fountain Fund also advocates for public policy that increases economic opportunities and reduces obstacles for formerly incarcerated people.”
