2018 Elections

2018 Elections

There are two elections in November 2018 in Albemarle County: U.S. Senate and the 5th District U.S. House of Representatives.

U.S Senate

Our current U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D) is running for re-election this year. He will be nominated in a primary on Tuesday, June 12th, if another Democrat were to seek the nomination.

U.S. House of Representatives, 5th District

We’re working hard to defeat the current Representative Tom Garret (R) this year. There are four candidates seeking the nomination to run against him. That nomination will be determined by a convention process that will conclude in May.

The candidates (alphabetically):

The nomination process:

The 5th District Democratic Committee will hold a convention on Saturday, May 5, 2018, in Farmville, VA, to select the Democratic nominee for U.S House. Delegates to the convention will be elected at caucuses in each city and county in the 5th district (including Albemarle). Those local caucuses will be held between April 14th, and April 21st, to be determined by each local committee. Albemarle will tentatively hold its caucus on Monday, April 16th. More information will be posted about these events by the end of February.
